Throw away lines…

12 Dec

Everyone single one of us have experienced at one point or another life changing moments.  Those moments that we looked forward to with anticipation…those moments that we knew were critical in setting the stage for our future.  These are the moments that many of us have recorded in a photo album or on Facebook.  These are the moments when you hear things like:

“Your hired!”

“Congratulations…its a boy!”

or “I do.”

And it is clear that God uses these moments to shape our future…but one thing that I have recently learned is that more than these big moments God uses the throw away lines in our life to guide our steps and lead us down a divine path.  What do I mean by throw away lines?  Parts of your story that seem too insignificant to even mention.  Look at the book of Esther…it is filled with throw away lines.

2:7  The young woman had a beautiful figure and was lovely to look at.  Is it really necessary to tell everyone that Esther was smoking hot?  Seems like a throw away line…

2:15  Now Esther was winning favor in the eyes of all who saw her.  Is it really necessary to tell everyone that she was super popular?  Seems like a throw away line…

2:19-23  An assassination plot against the king was discovered… and it was recorded in the book of the chronicles.  Who cares if this was written down…why are you giving me all this useless information.  It’s a throw away line…

5:14  Evil Haman prepared a pole to use to kill Mordecai… seems a little morbid, right.  And is it necessary that we know all of this?  Feels like a throw away line…

6:1  The king could not sleep…  Doesn’t feel like a huge deal does it.  A throw away line perhaps.

What is the point of all of this?  Read the story of Esther, and it will become crystal clear that God uses every single throw away line to lead his people toward a bright a glorious future.  He uses insignificant moments…forget-able conversations to shape us into what He wants us to be.

As I was thinking about this I was reminded of a throw away line in my life that was pivotal in me becoming the Husband to my beautiful wife…the Father to my amazing kids…and the Pastor of this awesome church.

Prepare yourself…here it is, “Sorry, we don’t have any scholarship money available for you.”

Thank God for the throw away lines.

So very true, I could quote several, but I will only give you one, when Ray and I were newly weds, his father said to us, ” You can’t go through life holding hands” We looked at him as if he had lost his mind and said at the same time “YOU WANT TO BET” We laughed about that statement a lot during our 47 years, and we did go through life hiolding hands. When you best friends before you become lovers after marriage any thing is possibel!
