Would you like an Appetizer?

30 Jan

I don’t know about you but I love a good appetizer.  It isn’t the main course, it isn’t the reason that you came to this particular restruant…and if you left after just the appetizer you probably wouldn’t leave very satisfied.  But let’s not underestimate the joy and value of a good appetizer.  It peaks your appetite and gets you ready for the main dish.  A good appetizer will awaken your ‘hunger’ and leave you wanting more.

We are one day into this fast and a lot of people are starting to get hungry.  Let me put this in a way that you can relate to at this particular moment.  I believe there are many people in this church who are hungry for God in a way that they have never been before.  They are hungry to see God move…people saved…sickness healed…marriages restored…of course this list could go on and on.

And I believe that as we fast we are sitting down at the table preparing to feast on the “Bread of Life.”  I believe that Jesus is going to begin to satisfy that deep, longing, spiritual hunger that is grumbling in so many.  And for some God has already begun to send out the appetizers…I think that he wants us to stay where we are so that we can experience the main course.

A woman in our church testified that her hand was instantly healed during altar time last week.  And she has been going on a week with not pain.  Just a little appetizer.

I was emailed by a young couple in our church that said they were going to fast for favor in a difficult situation that they were facing.  Certain regulations that were making things particularly difficult on their family.  Last week even before the fast begun…God served up a little appetizer for them.  Guess what…they are more hungry now and more determined to complete the fast than ever before.

I had a conversation with a man in our church this morning, who actually started fasting last week.  He was told that the job opportunities had run dry and their would be no more work for him the rest of this season.  Of course he took this to the Lord in fasting and prayer.  The next day his calendar was booked solid for the next six weeks.  His appetite has been peaked I can assure you.  To see a man jumping up and down and pumping his fist in the air tells me one thing…he is hungry.

God may have given some of you a little appetizer…others he may be holding back a little bit because he is preparing the biggest, juiciest steak that you have ever seen.  Either way, know this…he is able to satisfy your hunger.

Stay hungry!
